Ever since the first Catalyst, we have asked each participating choreographer to create a "guide" for his/her piece. This "guide" is there to help the audience to understand, perceive and enjoy the artist's work. The "guide" is not an explanation, though it could be. The "guide" doesn't have to be factual, though it could be. The "guide" can be anything, as long as it serves the purpose of how the choreographers want to prepare the audience to see their work at Catalyst.
For this year's Catalyst, we have asked each artist to create a 1-2 minute video guide for their piece that is to be shown on the internet ahead of this year's shows. The medium and format may have changed, however, the purpose is still the same.

Catalyst

Dear fellow artists!!!!!
Los Angeles Movement Arts (LAMA) is producing its third iteration of Catalyst. It was conceived as a platform for artists to push their boundaries and promote purposeful experimentation.
We would like to invite you to submit a proposal for an original piece that follows the spirit of Catalyst and the guidelines given. The LAMA Catalyst production team will then select several pieces to be presented at the Catalyst show, December 3rd & 4th, 2011 at the Diavolo Space.
LAMA's Catalyst production team has decided on a conceptual framework for our third Catalyst.
The idea: "Back by Popular Demand," For this year'sCatalyst, “create a work that brings back something that was popular once but in today’s context.”
Los Angeles Movement Arts (LAMA) is producing its second iteration of Catalyst. It was conceived as a platform for artists to push their boundaries and promote purposeful experimentation.
We would like to invite you to submit a proposal for an original piece that follows the spirit of Catalyst and the guidelines given. The LAMA Catalyst production team will then select several pieces to be presented at the Catalyst show, December 11th, 2010 at the Diavolo Space.
LAMA's Catalyst production team has decided on a conceptual framework for our second Catalyst.
The idea: "Necessity is the mother of invention," For this year'sCatalyst, “we would like to ask the choreographers to create a guide for their piece using art form other than dance. It doesn't matter which art form, but it has to be performed live.” This is to encourage a cross medium/discipline approach.
